H.E. Ambassador Biruk Mekonnen, Head of Mission of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia in London, delivered remarks on Ethiopia’s preparations to host COP32 in 2027 and its commitment to global climate action at a discussion forum titled “Countdown to COP31: Accelerating Action in a World of Extremes.”

The event was jointly organized by the Delegation of the European Union to the United Kingdom and the Grantham Institute.

In his remarks, Ambassador Biruk Mekonnen reaffirmed Ethiopia’s commitment to global climate action and highlighted the country’s preparations to host COP32 in 2027. He emphasized the importance of strengthening international cooperation, ensuring continuity, and accelerating the implementation of climate commitments to address the growing challenges posed by climate change.

The forum brought together policymakers, climate researchers, diplomats, and other stakeholders to exchange perspectives on advancing climate ambition and delivering tangible outcomes ahead of future COP negotiations.
